Ethan Wilson
I'm Ethan, I grew up in Peru, New York. It's a very quiet and small town, but it allowed me to take advantage of finding the importance of small things or details. I started photography in mid-2019, and my passion for cinematography followed quickly. I made multiple films in high school for friends and from there applied to Ithaca College, and I am attending for a Film BFA
I create works that focus on the complexities of people’s psyche, mental health, and emotions, by using color and shadows to convey vulnerability.  I am a cinematographer and photographer who tells stories that resonate with the human experience.  I provide others with a place to escape and where they can reminisce about a time that was once forgotten.
.  I create images that put viewers in a vulnerable state of thinking.  By encapsulating them with a narrative, by utilizing themes of darkness and light, mental health, and exploration. Like, the harsh shadows and red lighting on a model to convey themes of depression. Or my exploration of landscape photography that focuses on the sublime, like the sight of extraordinary mountains.  I want my viewers to contemplate when looking at my work, by having a revelation, inward thoughts, or a moment of vulnerability.
I draw inspiration from Christopher Nolan, who uses themes of time, memory, and identity, like in his movie Inception. Also, the photographer Peter McKinnon explores authenticity and exploration, specifically in his photograph ‘Chasing Darkness’. Then Alan Schaller, who works in black and white, uses shadows to capture his subjects. Takes inspiration from these artists to promote an investigation into human vulnerability, consciousness, and the spectatorial.
